The pups are now three weeks old! Today, we started to get the family used to the sights and sounds of people on the boardwalk by taking a small group of NSC staff onto the boardwalk a few different times. Neither parent seemed to mind their presence. Late morning, Lana caught and killed a brown snake! She flipped it around and rubbed on it. She is such a great hunter. It is great that she has the opportunity in this exhibit to do natural behaviors such as hunting!
Today, we introduced the scent of a third zoo staff member during our socialization session. We also weighed the pups for the first time. They are only about 1.5 pounds! We also clipped a small patch of fur on the two female pups so that we can more easily tell them apart. We got lots of great photos!
In the afternoon, we observed Lana chase Nazca away from the den. We think he forgot that he wasn't supposed to walk near it...he seemed very apologetic!
This is one of the female pups!
